The War Years
The Bomb Disposal Home Guard
Jerry Mortimore's granddad, Ernie
Mortimore, worked in the woodshop and was nearly blown up by the
flying bomb.
Jerry's dad, Jack Mortimore was in the home
guard and helped to dig people out.
Jack was also in the Home Guard bomb disposal and here are some pictures of them digging up a big German bomb on the top field.
But it was a dud - for practice only.

Apparently they dug it up and buried it several times, finally leaving it buried. A possible nasty surprise for any developer...

Jack Mortimore was a keen racing cyclist and he took part in this competition
These photos and descriptions were emailed by Jerry Mortimore - Jerry is the son of Jack Mortimore and grandson of Ernie Mortimore
